OMG!! The ground shook a little...

We just got hit with a 5.8 earthquake. It was kinda far away - Chino Hills, about 40 miles away. I was at work, on the 15th floor of my work tower. It was pretty wild - the building is on rollers, so we were swaying pretty bad. I was in a meeting, and everyone was flipping out, but I secretly enjoyed it. As far as I know there isn't any damage yet. Wheee! My first earthquake!!
UPDATE:

Jessica didn't feel it. She was too busy making photocopies at work to notice (how do you not notice a 5.8 earthquake?!). Now she feels left out :)

Battle of the Bank!

This weekend, LADD held the first ever modern Roller Derby Banked Track tournament. It was quite the production, as Texas, San Diego, Orange County and Team Awesome (a compilation of the best flat track skaters in the country) came to the Doll Factory for two days of derby madness.

I skated for the LA "B" team - the LA Golden Girls (We are the "Bea" team, like Bea Arthur - get it!? Well, our shirts were hilarious at least).

That is Bea Arthurs face - and the bottom say's "Dont you wish your girlfriend was hot like BEA?"

In our first game, we rolled over Orange County 80something to 20something - but we met our match in the second game. San Diego, who was recently destroyed by over 100 points by the LA Ri-ettes, were back for payback. It was a super tight game, and we thought we had clinched it with a two pointer in the last jam. But then the mysterious "major penalty in a last jam rule" came up, and they took our two points away. And San Diego got to jam again - and we didnt have a jammer. And then we lost. And it really sucked - we were doing our victory lap when they called us down to explain the rule.

So the Golden Girls did not get to skate on Sunday for third place against Texas. But the Ri-ettes had made it to the Championship game against Team Awesome - and that awful rule came up again! This time - the Ri-ettes had a major that gave TA a chance to jam unopposed for the lead, but then TA had a major, and then there were the mysterious five "ghost points" awarded to TA, and then finally the Ri-ettes pulled off a jam without a major to win by one point! But all the back and forth with the reffing caused major skater on ref and fan on ref drama - people started throwing things on the track! It got ugly. Anyway, that was a lot of roller derby lingo - but LA pulled it out!
And now we are on hiatus, and I don't have to skate or think about roller derby for six weeks! I think it will be about four days before I am getty antsy to skate again. But the time off will be nice - I plan on doing "summery" things...

The Advocate article is out!

So, at the beginning of May, I was asked to be part of an article in the Advocate about gay women in roller derby. They took some photos and then did an interview with myself, teammate Krissy Krash and retired skater Kasey Bomber. The magazine just hit newstands, and the pictures turned out awesome! I am on the table of contents, giving the finger with my sad, broken middle finger, and there is a spread of all three of us as well. I think the picture of all of us was supposed to be the cover, but then gay marriage happened and we got bumped.
Here are the pictures, and if you get a chance, check out the article in stores!

All photos by Megan Quinn.

The good news is that my finger is on the way to healing - I finally got to take the splint off, I just have to wear it now when I play Derby. We have a big tournament next weekend, and then I get two months off! I am so excited for hiatus you cannot imagine...

Anyway, my weekend is a whole other post. Hope everyone is well!!

Weekend

Hello....

Well we also had a busy weekend. My brother-in-law and Jessica and Ava came up for the weekend. We had a great time on Saturday playing with the kids at the splash pad and running around finding father's day gifts.

Then Saturday night we had a babysitter and the four of us plus Jason went on a date night for the first time in over two and a half years!! It was much needed and the kids did great with the babysitter.

We started at Boston's for dinner and then headed to the chicken for some sangria..yum...

We had a great father's day and now it is back to the work week!

love and miss you guys.

Pics of the House

So while I am sitting at home I thought I would post some pics of the house. I haven't been there since last Sunday, but things seem to be going up pretty fast. Hopefully we will be in it by the end of the summer. Wow that is a scary thought. Once we are moved I hope you all will come stay with us. I guess that means I have to furnish it first. I am really excited. But very nervous too. Bills suck! I am a paranoia freak.

Definitely ready to move out of the apartment. I will not miss the fence that keeps breaking or the upstairs neighbors who rearrange their furniture and walk on heals all day and night everyday or the next door neighbors who wake me up at 4 o'clock in the morning when they are coming in from partying.

Hello Girls!!!

Well I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend (it is almost over (very sad)). What was supposed to be a very busy weekend for Josh and I didn't exactly turn out that way. We ended up in the ER because Josh has kidney stones. Thanks to Julie's driving we made it in record time to the ER from Chaparrell!. He was in so much pain I cried. He is doing ok now, but we just have to wait it out. I feel helpless. Poor guy! Other than that things are ok. I just hope his pain goes away soon. So anyone else have an interesting weekend? Miss you guys!
